MINOR SURGERY

Pre-operation advice

At your appointment, Dr Stepien or Dr Hicks will review your skin lesion and decide on a suitable management plan. This will likely be to complete a minor operation to remove the skin lesion of concern. There may be some situations where on review of your skin lesion, Dr Stepien or Dr Hicks may decide clinically that removing the skin lesion in Primary care is not the most appropriate or safe option and will therefore arrange further investigations/referrals and or management and review as necessary.

At your minor operation appointment, Dr Stepien or Dr Hicks will discuss with you the minor operation, the process, what to expect and ask you to sign a consent form. They will also inform you of a post operative instructions and follow up if needed.

All skin lesions removed will be sent for formal histology at Worcester Royal Hospital, the results take around 1 month to be processed and passed back to us here at the surgery. We will inform you of your results via text, phone or email. You will be asked to select which option you prefer on the signing of your consent form at your appointment.

If you are taking any anticoagulant medication for Atrial Fibrillation (AF) only (which include apixaban, edoxaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran), please STOP your medication the day before your minor surgery.

If you are taking Warfarin, you will need to ensure your INR is checked on the day of your minor surgery. Please book this INR appointment via reception. The INR result needs to be <3.0-3.5. If your INR is higher your minor surgery will be rescheduled.

You do not need to stop any other medication prior to your minor operation.
